Program 2024, Lariana boat museum, Pianello del Lario

Located in Pianello del Lario in a splendid 19th-century spinning mill, the Barca Lariana Museum protects a unique heritage in the world. Over 400 historical hulls are preserved in the museum halls and warehouses, including rowing boats, gondolas, fishing, hunting and smuggling boats, inboard and outboard motorboats, steamers for passenger transport, three-point and racing catamarans, sailboats and old barges to work.

Also keep in mind the number of engines, about 300 pieces, and the thousands of objects relating to the construction and use of boats.

Upon request, the museum also offers the consultation of infinite slides, period photos, recordings and testimonies of shipwrights, boatmen, fishermen and a vast library with over 2,500 historical and sector books and magazines.
Three new rooms have recently been inaugurated: the prestigious exhibition of Riva di Sarnico motorboats, a room dedicated to the oldest and best preserved Venetian gondolas in the world and the Sala delle Vittorie in memory of the golden times of rowing on the lake.

Today the Museum intends to tell, not only the history of boating on Lake Como, but of the whole of Italy. From the ancient Romans up to the present day, boats tell us about the ordinary and extraordinary lives of ordinary and special men: an enchanting journey which, we hope, will give us back the memory of a wonderful Italy which must not be forgotten and which can be stimulus for future generations.
